Doncasters is a leading manufacturer of vacuum melted superalloys for precision casting applications. Doncasters has three operating facilities, located at Ross & Catherall in U.K., Certified Alloy Products Inc in USA and Bochum in Germany, offering a wide range of vacuum induction melting (VIM) and air induction melting (AIM) capabilities. VIM furnace sizes range in capacity from 500kg to 6000kg.
Superalloys are alloys typically containing nickel with additions of among other things cobalt, chromium, aluminium, titanium, molybdenum, niobium, tungsten and tantalum. Included in Doncasters' capabilities are alloys specifically designed for directional solidification and single crystal applications.
Superalloys find widespread application in gas turbines for aerospace and industrial power generation applications, where they are used to produce blades and guide vanes designed to operate under the most demanding conditions.
The company also produces the specialist alloys required to produce hot-end turbocharger wheels for the automotive sector, and cobalt base alloys used predominantly in medical markets for replacement implants such as hip and knee joints.
