Ian Salisbury Named Geschäftsführer for Doncasters Precision Castings – Bochum

10 March 2014, Burton Upon Trent, UK — Ian Salisbury has been appointed Geschäftsführer at Doncasters Precision Castings – Bochum. Mr Salisbury will report directly to Don Poole, Managing Director of Doncasters IGT Turbine Airfoils Division.

Before joining Doncasters Precision Castings – Bochum, Mr Salisbury was General Manager of a major tier one automotive supplier, a business with €175m turnover and 650 employees. As German MD and European Operations Director of a Swedish hose manufacturer (€85m turnover/1400 employees), he was integrally involved in rescuing ailing plants in Czech Republic and Poland, rebuilding the trust and confidence of key OEMs (BMW, Mercedes Benz, VW, GM and Ford). Prior to this he held consultancy positions with Cooper Crouse Hinds and Transact Developments and was previously appointed Head of Assembly for Augusta Westland Helicopters.

Mr Salisbury is a chartered engineer, (INSEAD) MBA and fluent in French and German with over 30 years’ experience in automotive and aerospace manufacturing. With an extensive background in operational leadership, he has a strong grounding in lean manufacturing principles and a successful track record of turning these principles into tangible results. He launched and implemented world class manufacturing techniques with a global auto-maker with an internal consultancy group, training the teams and establishing pilot projects in all major plants. He was instrumental in establishing ‘flow’ and eradicating waste in assembled structures by using Kaizen, SMED, TPM & 5S as part of a coherent “lean” strategy.

Mr. Poole noted that, “It is well known throughout the business that Oliver has made a significant contribution to Doncasters Bochum over the last four years. We wish him every success for the future and are grateful for his willingness to work with Ian and continue to support the business through this period of change. Ian brings considerable expertise in engineering and manufacturing to the IGT Turbine Airfoils Division, which will be a great asset as we drive growth in 2014. Please join me in welcoming him to the business in Bochum and to the Doncasters Global Leadership Team.”
